A 24 hours durational travelling arts event held at different sites across London

Jump+ is pleased to collaborate with Hong Kong-based artist Movana Chen in presenting her first stop of "Travelling Into Your Bookshelf” touring art project in London. Movana Chen’s work is a multi-disciplinary fushion of media transformation, fashion, sculpture, live art and installation, which has been presented in diverse exhibitions and festival events in Hong Kong, London, Seoul, Beijing and Shanghai.

In Movana's previous work, she has been knitting works of art by deconstructing and reconstructing shredded pieces from old magazines. She focused on exploring “wearable art” by creating “body container” sculptures, which are used to examine the relationship between garments and the media, and also to reflect on our consumption of disposable commodities. “Travelling into your Bookshelf” is Movana's new touring project that creates dialogues around memories of books donated by people from all over the world. It is an ongoing project that aims not have any limits in terms of location or format. Through meeting with strangers and reading their books, she attempt to establish relationships with them and learn about their cultures by exploring their memories and maintaining a two-way communication. Through her knitting process with the participants, she hopes to create a new way of reading and let the viewers re-examine the communication barriers between people nowadays.

During the first two weeks of April, 2010 she will be spending seven days at Ambient Space (Ambienttv.net) with intermedia artists Manu Luksch Mukul Patel, along with her shredding machine and her ongoing knitting artwork, she will then teach them how to knit with the chosen books from their bookshelf, aside from getting to know the participants on a deeper level, travelling into their memories.
